Description: RAS covers (2) commemorating the end of RAS Railex. A reg (label) cover Liverpool-Glasow franked 4 1/2d and an ordinary cover London-Glasgow, franked 1 1/2d both posted on 3/2/36, the last date before the termination of the RAS Railex service. Both addressed to the noted aviation collector, Dr G Joseph, Glasgow. The rules applying at that time stated that registered covers had to be sent by the fastest route, so it is likely that the registered cover was flown.Neither cover went by Railex.

Description: WARTIME SERVICES TO IRELAND. On 13th September 1939 all airmail services were suspended due to the declaration of war. On 1st August 1941 RAS opened a mail carrying service between Belfast and Liverpool with the addition of a 3d air fee. Hence the inclusive charge of 5 1/2d on this cover from sent from Ballymena to Hampshire. Few such items survived - it was wartime and there were no distinguishing marks.
